Duvet Size Guide – Which Size Fits Your Bed?

Why Duvet Size Matters

Getting the right duvet size isn't just about covering your mattress — it's about overhang. Too little and you'll find yourself pulling the duvet during the night; too much and it'll pool on the floor or bunch uncomfortably. The goal is a generous drape on all sides.

Should You Size Up?

If you share a bed, sizing up is almost always a good idea. A double duvet on a double bed leaves minimal overhang for two people; a king-size duvet gives each person enough coverage without a tug-of-war. Many couples with a king-size bed opt for a super-king duvet for this exact reason.

Single Beds: A Note

Single duvets are the right size for a standard 3 ft single bed. If the bed is used by a teenager or a taller adult, a double duvet on a single bed can provide better coverage and warmth for the whole body.

Small Double Beds

The small double (4 ft) is a popular choice for guest rooms and smaller spaces. We recommend at minimum a double duvet (200 × 200 cm) and ideally a king-size (225 × 220 cm) for a full, generous overhang.

European Duvet Sizes

If you're buying a duvet for a European-style bed frame or an IKEA bed, note that dimensions can differ. European single: 140 × 200 cm; European double: 200 × 200 cm; European king: 240 × 220 cm. Always check the frame dimensions before purchasing.

Duvet Covers & Matching Sizes

Duvet cover sizes are standardised to match the duvet. A king duvet fits a king duvet cover. That said, some people prefer to use a slightly larger cover for a looser, more relaxed look — one size up is fine; two sizes up will look oversized and misshapen.
